Cameroon's President Paul Biya Wins Eighth Term
Biya, 92 years old and in power for over four decades, won a record eighth term, defeating his main challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who garnered 39.19% of the vote.
Tchiroma, a former government minister, has, however, continued to assert that he was the true winner of the election, which took place on October 12.
Following his claims of victory, his supporters heeded his call for demonstrations in the commercial capital, Douala, on Sunday.
The protests escalated into violent clashes with security forces, resulting in the deaths of at least four civilians. A news agency reported these incidents.
